Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve
One of San Diego County’s most precious natural resources offers approximately 11 miles of hiking, mountain biking, equestrian trails, and scenic view points of all of North County from the ocean to the mountains.
Located in between San Marcos & Escondido at 8833 Harmony Grove Road in the rural community of Elfin Forest.
The Reserve also contains a section of Escondido Creek, which flows year-round from Lake Wohlford to San Elijo Lagoon. The creek runs through the staging area at the base of the trailhead giving all visitors an opportunity to pass over it as they begin their hike or ride from the trailhead.
Expect the hike to include steeps trails & switchbacks. Ok for beginners. The Friends of the Reserve have a walking stick station that lends you a stick to use on the walk up & down the trail. Dogs are welcome.
There are also picnic areas at the top of the mountain with views of the Olivenhaven Reserve which holds 8 billion gallons of water. A site to see!
You’ll also find restrooms, drinking water & shaded sitting areas along the trail paths. Click here for a map trail.
Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve is open 364 days a year from 8am to 30mins before sunset. The reserve is closed on December 25th and on rainy days.
