North County Cities providing Christmas tree recycling services

Need to recycle your tree? Thanks to SignonSanDiego for putting together this list of all the cities in North County that are providing these free recycling services.

Bonsall

Place trees for recycling inside the containers at River Village, 5256 S. Mission Road in the northwest parking lot through Jan. 10. No ornaments, tinsel, nails or tree stands. Flocked trees accepted.

Carlsbad

Free curbside pickup of trees on the normally scheduled collection day and locations for dropping off Christmas trees are available through Jan. 17. Tree stands, lights and other decorations must be removed. Flocked trees are not recyclable and must be disposed of through regular trash service. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half.

Del Mar

Waste Management is offering curbside pickup of Christmas trees for Del Mar residents. The trees must be unflocked, unsprayed and must not have any metal ornaments or stands. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half. Flocked trees, which are not recyclable, must be cut in half. For more information, call Waste Management at (858) 452-9810.

Encinitas

EDCO will pick up trees on regular collection days through Jan. 7. Residents are asked to remove the stand and all trimmings, cut the tree into lengths no more than 4 feet. Trees should be placed curbside along with the other waste. EDCO will provide free roll-off boxes, which hold multiple trees, for residents in multifamily complexes. Flocked trees must be disposed of with regular trash. For more information, call (760) 436-4151.

Escondido

Escondido is offering Christmas tree recycling at curbside or at two drop-off locations. Flocked trees are accepted, but tinsel, ornaments, nails and tree stands must be removed.

For curbside recycling, available through Jan. 14, residents can leave their trees out with their regular green waste collection. Trees must be cut into 4-foot pieces.

Tree recycling will be available at multifamily residences from Monday through Jan. 7. Residents should ask their complex manager for the collection site.

Trees of any size may be recycled at two drop-off sites through Jan. 17. Place trees in or next to the large recycling containers. The drop-off locations are Kit Carson Park, 3333 Bear Valley Parkway, across from the adult softball complex; and Jesmond Dene Park, 2401 N. Broadway, in the parking lot next to the ball fields. Fallbrook

Recycle trees through Jan. 15 at River Village, 5256 Mission Road (North End near Prudential Realty) and Fallbrook Refuse Services, 550 W. Aviation Road. No ornaments, tinsel, nails or tree stands. Flocked trees accepted. (760) 728-6114 or www.edcodisposal.com

Oceanside

Waste Management of North County offers free curbside pickup through Jan. 10. Trees should be placed curbside on the regular trash day and will be picked up between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., and must be cut in 4-foot sections if taller than 6 feet. Decorations and stands must be removed. Residents can contact Waste Management after Jan. 10 to schedule a regular bulky item pickup.

Poway

Trees should be placed curbside on regular trash day for the two weeks immediately following Christmas Day. Residents must remove the stand and trimmings, and trees should be cut into lengths of 4 feet or fewer. After the two weeks, trees must be cut and bundled.

Ramona

Residents may place Christmas trees curbside through Jan. 14 on regular collection days. No ornaments, tinsel, nails or tree stands. Tall trees must be cut down to 4-feet. For more information, call (760) 789-0516 or go to www.edcodisposal.com

San Marcos

Residents may drop off Christmas trees of all sizes at the San Marcos Senior Center, 111 Richmar Ave. Trees will be accepted through Jan. 12.

EDCO Waste and Recycling customers can leave trees at the curb on their usual trash collection day. EDCO will pick up trees with other green waste through Jan. 7 at no extra cost. For curbside recycling, trees must be cut into 4-foot pieces, and the stand and trimmings must be removed. Flocked trees are not accepted.

Christmas tree collection is available for multifamily residences. Association and apartment managers should call EDCO to arrange for the service. For more information, call EDCO Waste and Recycling at (760) 744-2700.

Solana Beach

Coast Waste Management’s tree collection program runs through Jan. 17. Residents can either have trees picked up curbside on their regular collection day, or drop off trees at one of two city locations.

Residents choosing to have trees picked up curbside should remove ornaments, stands, flocking and lights. The trees must also be cut in half.

Residents who choose to drop off their trees do not need to cut them in half. However, they must remove ornaments, stands, flocking and lights. Trees can be dropped off at City Hall, 635 S. Highway 101, or at La Colonia Community Center, 715 Valley Ave.

Unincorporated North County

There are 16 tree drop-offs operated by the county, open through Jan. 23. The three North County locations are at the lower parking lot of the Carmel Valley Recreation Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive; The Rancho Bernardo Recreation Center, 18448 W. Bernardo Drive; and at the Canyonside Recreation Center, 12350 Black Mountain Road in Rancho Peñasquitos. Locations are open during daylight hours. Rancho Santa Fe Waste Management customers can put their tree out for curbside pickup on their regular pickup day.

Vista

EDCO customers can place trees curbside on their regular collection day from Dec. 27 to Jan. 10. The trimmings, decorations and stand must be removed. Organic decorations, such as natural garlands and wreathes, can also be placed in a designated yard-waste container.

Customers can also drop off trees at two central locations, the public parking lot between South Santa Fe Avenue and Mercantile Street, or the parking lot at South Melrose Drive and Shadowridge Drive.
